I'm now 34 1/2 weeks pregnant - ahhh!! I'm so excited to meet our little guy. I am also starting to get nervous about having everything we need. I'm not worried about having every little thing ready. I just want to make sure we have the essentials. So, all you moms out there - what are the must-haves for:
My hospital bag
Our first week at home
Anything else you were glad you had or you wish you'd had
(A huge thanks to family and friends who have been so generous and supportive. I can't believe how blessed this baby is to be born with such great family and friends.)
Ice cream sundae date with mom

I'm so bad at this stuff because I can only think of things that are useful for a c-section and for formula, and most mom's don't have to deal with either of those.
ReplyDeleteIf you get a boppy take that with you to the hospital. And a light robe is nice to have. You may want to take some movies or games to play when your in labor and after.
Gripe water can be one of your best friends, and it's safe to give to newborns. It's expensive, but if you can get some do. My boy all get hiccups when they're babies, and the gripe water works great for those. And it's just nice for any ailment- teething, tummy trouble, colic, etc.
I'm so excited! Be sure to tell me when they have your shower at work.
I had a nightgown that buttoned down a little in the front (easy nursing access). I lived in that thing for a month. So comfy.
ReplyDeleteAlso, i got some cream called lansinoah (or something like that) that was to help your boobs from cracking and bleeding. The hospital can give you samples of it though.
It's nice to have receiving blankets or a thin blanket to make a nice tight swaddle as well.
Make sure your car seat base is in properly. They have someone walk you to your car so they can make sure the baby is put in properly and if it's not, it's a little embarrassing. (Trust me. :) ) If you want, you can take your car to any local police station and they can double check to make sure it's put in properly.
So excited for you! Have you had a baby shower yet?
Lasinoh is a must! It definitely helps. Nursing bras (specially comfy ones for night time feedings).
ReplyDeleteBobbies are nice!
Meals. I hope you Relief Society is planning to bring you food. Otherwise you forget to eat.
For the hospital bag.. I just used the hospital gowns because I didn't want to bleed on my PJs. You are going to need some pads for when you go home. The hospital gives you some, but I didn't like them that much.
Don't forget you camera and laptop for the hospital! It was nice to get pictures up for family and everyone to see the next day. Other than that.. an outfit for the baby to go home in and something comfy for you to ride home in. I took stretchy black pants.. Jeans still hurt to wear after 2 weeks so I wouldn't recommend those.
A Grandma and Grandpa to 'spoil' the baby. Maybe do some diaper duty and cook some good southern food! We can't wait to meet Baby Rains our little 'Raindrop'!!
ReplyDeleteMake sure the car seat is in properly.
ReplyDeleteFrom our own experience, sterilize some pacifiers!! Our boys never used them during their week long stay in the hospital but the first night we had them home we were up in the middle of the night boiling some so we could use them.
I'm sure the dad and grandparents can handle the rest!
I agree with Bre - take a warm robe to the hospital that unzips or buttons in the front...best thing ever.
ReplyDeleteAlso, swaddle blankets. Makes it easy to swaddle a newborn tightly. My friend's 3 year old still velcros his around his waist at night.
